64 / BUILDING DIALOGUE / MARCH 2025 As the population in Northern Colorado continues to grow at an unprecedented pace, the demand for high-quality health care services has become more urgent than ever. To meet this demand, UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies is undergoing a transformative expansion. Originally opened in 2007, the hospital is now adding a significant square footage of new space while also renovating existing facilities. This project ensures that the hospital can continue delivering advanced care to the region while preparing for the future. Centrally located, UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies serves Northern Colorado, Southern Wyoming and Western Nebraska. In 2022, it was designated as a Level 1 trauma center – the only advanced trauma center north of Denver. The expansion will add a five-story inpatient tower to accommodate trauma-surgical, medical-surgical, and surgical-ICU patients, along with a new emergency entrance. A state-of-theart cancer center featuring high-dose radiation therapy; additional imaging services including CT, ultrasound, MRI; and new patient rooms are also part of the development. The expansion of cancer care is particularly impactful, eliminating the need for local patients to travel to Denver for high-dose radiation treatment. Building on an occupied campus Maintaining full hospital operations throughout the duration of the project has been a top priority. As the primary health care provider for Northern Colorado and beyond, UCHealth cannot afford any disruption in patient care.
