By John Eden STAFF WRITER Most of us here in South Georgia think we know what bird hunting is, but a group of Wayne County hunters discov- ered this past summer that there’s a “whole `nother dimension” to the sport in Argentina. Jerry Bamberg and his three boys—Josh, Jared and Jake—and their uncle, Rodney Anderson, went to Argentina with an outfitter, Argentina Wild Wings, and the ex- perience was very differ- ent from what they were familiar with here. Usually, in South Georgia, dove hunting involves sitting around the edges of a cornfield all morning, waiting for a few dove to come wing- ing in—whistling and headed for breakfast— and then way more shots fired than there are birds. Going home with a few birds in your bag is con- sidered a successful hunt. In Argentina, however, there are so many birds—mostly dove and parakeets—that there are great clouds of them. “The amount of dove and parakeets is unimaginable!” Jared Bamberg reported. He said the landown- ers of the vast farming areas in Argentina wel- come the outfitters who bring in hunters because the birds are a nuisance and destroy crops. The hunting helps keep the birds under control.
