He and his family cleared out the trees and stumps at 316 Purser Drive to make way for their new cabin. They worked extensively on it at every op- portunity. The cabin was custom-built and de- signed for Joe’s mother, Laura Dean Tyre, by Joe; his brother, Jim; and his sister-in-law, Tammie Tyre. Joe also likes to give credit to his wife, Heather, for redecorating after his mother’s passing in 2023. When the pandemic hit in 2020, Joe, who worked in industrial sales, wasn’t allowed to travel, and he saw it as a time to complete the task. “That allowed me the opportunity to work essentially every evening,” he said. “We kind of changed gears to the point where, every week- end, my sister-in-law and my brother would come over and help me get to a point where I could work.” The cabin was built in segments. The family started with the interior to be all wood. The interior is all tongue and groove pine walls and ceilings. There are also coats of stain and polyurethane used for this segment. The bedroom was decorated by Heather, and Joe utilized his mother’s dresser to redecorate. The cabin was designed to some ex- tent around the shower. This was an aspect that Joe found crucial for a cabin for his mother. “We wanted to build a shower that she could easily access without a threshold,” he said. “We have a walk- in shower that’s big enough to roll a walker out of the way.” The shower reconfigured layouts for the living room, the coat closet, the pantry and a walk-in closet. The family also built countertops with Joe’s cousin. “He built the cabinets and added sev- eral things that my mother wanted,” Joe said. “Instead of shelves, we have slide-out drawers.” The kitchen also contains wooden countertops made by Joe and Jim. The living room features a view that over- looks the family pond.
