BY KIP KOVAR Herald Journal Sports Editor BROWNTON – Being part of the inaugural Knocking Out Cancer Day hosted by the Brownton Bruins, the Plato Bluejays had their hands full with one of the top teams in the state in the Delano A's. De‐ spite leading early, Delano battled back from an early hole and came out on top with a hard-fought 7-6 win in 11 in‐ nings over the Bluejays June 10. The Bluejays came out ready to roll, scoring in the rst inning and only adding to their lead as the game went on. Through ve innings, Plato held a 3-0 lead over the A’s. Delano got the o ense go‐ ing in the top of the sixth. The A’s scored four runs in the in‐ ning to turn a three-run de cit into a one-run lead. Jack Paul‐ son got Delano on the board with an RBI single. With the bases loaded and one out, the A’s pushed across two more runs on an errant throw to home tying the game at three. Delano would tag on one more in the inning on a rst and third steal to take a 4-3 lead. Plato would not go away quietly though. In the bottom of the seventh, Reece Schwirtz tied the game at four with one swing of the bat with a solo home run for the Blue‐ jays. The A’s and Bluejays would exchange a pair of runs in the ninth, and in the 11th, Delano broke through again. This time it was Oran Hinkle delivering an RBI single with two outs to put the A’s up 7-6 as they would hold on in the bottom half for the win. Gavin Popp picked up the win on the mound in relief for Delano. He went the nal three innings allowing two runs o one hit. For Plato, Dane Schwirtz set the tone at the top of the or‐ der going 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Adam Prehn added two RBI while Beau Lepel had two hits and Reece Schwirtz nished with three hits including his game-tying home run in the seventh.
