After falling behind big early, the Wildcats bat- tled back but came up short in an 11-8 loss to the Brownton Bruins May 25 at Denis M. Campbell Field. Despite the teams combining for 19 runs in the game, neither team could find big hits when needed. The Bruins left 14 run- ners on base while the Wildcats stranded 11 of their own runners in the loss. Brownton grabbed the lead first in their opening at-bat of the game. After Ryan Grams reached on an error on a dropped fly ball, he later scored on a groundout from Mason Goettl putting the Bruins up 1-0. Things could have been worse for Winsted but they limited the damage to just one and evened things up in the bot- tom half. After Leighton Buhr led off the in- ning with a walk, a sacrifice bunt from Jake Prehn moved him into scoring posi- tion with one out. Buhr would later score on a wild pitch to tie the game, but it was Brownton who took control of the game from that point on. The Bruins retook the lead in the top of the second thanks to an RBI single from Cole Matthews. Brownton would add to their lead with three more runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth to take a 6–1 lead over Winsted to the bottom of the fifth. The Wildcats would battle back with two runs in the and four more in the ninth but the four insurance runs in the seventh by Brownton proved to be the difference. Buhr took the loss on the mound for Winsted. He went three innings allowing two runs off of three hits. Alex Heimerl and Prehn also saw action for the Wildcats on the mound in relief. Brady Jenkins and Riley Heimerl led the way at the plate for Winsted. Both had three hits and two in two runs. Jacob Vol- ness scored a pair of runs while Zach Jack- son and Luke Zander each drove in a run. For Brownton, Seth Schuette picked up the win on the mound. He went six in- nings in which he allowed one earned run off four hits. Daniel Rosenau and Goettl combined to close things down in the final three innings. Scott Finberg led the way at the plate for the Bruins going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Nathan Schultz also had a two-hit day while Taylor Schuette drove in a pair and scored two runs himself.
