BY BEN ERNHART Sta Writer It’s been a long journey for Michael and Cherene Beatty, the owners of The Elders Nest, LLC. Having previously operated assisted living homes in the state of Washington, the couple has brought two fami- ly-friendly assisted living homes to Waverly. Construction began in the summer of 2019 and the two homes were originally scheduled to open June 1, 2020. However, state licensing delays brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic compounded with a series of new regulations associated with assisted living fa- cilities pushed the opening date to Nov. 4, 2021. Elders Nest homes feature: six private bedrooms, bathrooms with walk-in bathtubs, a full kitchen, din- ing area, living room, heated garage, and nished basements for live-in caregivers. Additionally, Elders Nest maintains a 24/7 sta of ten individuals including: one live-in director, a reg- istered nurse, and eight caregivers. “Our caregivers have time to spend one-on-one with the residents, visiting, doing crafts, taking them outside in the sun, etc.,” said Cherene. Further, Elders Nest residents will have access to health care services at all times. “Skin checks, mood, bowel care, range of motion, fall prevention, etc. are most assuredly done and cared for by a caregiver,” Cherene said. The Beattys hope to provide a unique assisted living experience, emphasizing a small community family-like atmosphere, and a commitment to resi- dents’ comfort and convenience, making each resi- dent feel at home. “The Elders Nest policy is to avoid rigid schedules for our residents,” Michael said. “Breakfast happens here all morning long.
